As the saying goes, "All work but no play makes Jack a dull boy." In every volume, Coffee Talk with ESCO chats up our team mates to find out more about their passion off work. We are excited to have Michael J. Lewis, Business Development Manager of ESCO Thailand to share with us about his hobby for bee keeping.
Hello!
My name is Michael,
Business Development Manager
How did it start?
It started one day almost 7 years ago with a friend and local neighbourhood beekeeper asking me if I would like to help him with tending to this bee hives. Naturally curious I accepted his offer to help. Soon after that day, I found myself with my first bee hive and completely obsessed to this day.

Did you know? Amazing Honey Bee Facts!
Amazing Honey Bee Facts! Did you know? Honey bees must gather nectar from two million flowers to make one pound of honey. One bee has to fly about 90,000 miles – three times around the globe – to make one pound of honey. The average bee will make only 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime. There is truth to the saying about being “busy as a bee”.

The Wonderful Gift of Nature
In addition to the wonderful gift of harvesting and enjoying raw honey, it is important to keep in mind that bees are pollinators. As pollinators, bees are responsible for helping to produce most of the fruits and vegetables we humans enjoy eating.

My one hive rapidly grew to three. I joined a local Bee Keeping Association and found a whole community of individuals equally obsessed. Through reading, attending lectures, and mentor-ship I progressed to become a modern day back yard Bee Keeper.
